PBO Lab 3.1 Release
The Intelligent Graphic User Interface
with Open Architecture Software Integration System
(OASIS) Technology!
PBO Lab 3.1 builds upon the extensive enhancements made
previoulsy with PBO Lab 3.0. That major upgrade to AccelSoft's
most popular software package featured an expanded
PBO Lab Tools Menu offering increased customization,
integration and versatility. PBO Lab 3.0 also provided several
new PBO Lab Application Modules as well as offering the ability
for users to develope their own Modules using our advanced
Open Architecture Software Integration System, or OASIS. PBO Lab 3.1
continues the expansion of the PBO Lab framework. PBO Lab 3.1
implements a number of features requested by PBO Lab 3.0 users
including updates to the popular Focusing & Bending Tools.
PBO Lab 3.0 and 3.1 both added enhancements to the long-standing
suite of Application Modules previously available with
PBO Lab 2.1.
Look here for a quick overview of
PBO Lab 3.0
Modules and Typical Uses.
New Modules for PBO Lab 3.0 & 3.1:
- The PSI-TURTLE Module
adds the unique program know as Graphic-Turtle to the suite
PBO Lab Application Modules. Developed using the OASIS technology,
the PSI-TURTLE Module supports the multi-particle simulation of
beamlines containing an expanded palette of charged particle optics
devices not included in the set of elements supported by the standard
TURTLE Module.
Graphics and visualization tools include both the Graphic-Turtle (gratur.exe)
displays as well as the standard PBO Lab Plot Tools for distribution data.
- The PARMILA-2 Module
allows users to design complete radiofrequency (RF) linear
accelerators, from the exit of an RFQ through DTLs, CCLs, SCLs,
intertank matching sections, and all beam transport lines.
Multi-particle space charge simulation is an integral part of
the program and users can adjust the maximum number of particles
arbitrarily high to test simulation fidelity and accuracy.
Developed with the OASIS technology, the PARMILA-2 Module links
seamlessly with the second generation PARMILA program ("PARMILA 2").
Graphics and visualization tools include both LinGraf and
custom PBO Lab plot displays. Another specialized PBO Lab
tool allows the creation of equivalent optics Pieces for an
complete linac so that the design can be simulated with any
other PBO Lab 3.1 Module, such as TRACE 3-D, TRANSPORT, MARYLIE,
TURTLE or PSI-TURTLE.
- The OASIS Module
Builder for PBO Lab 3.1 provides a sophisticated set of
easy to use tools for developing and testing custom Modules.
OASIS is an acronym for Open Architecture Software Integration
System and the OASIS Module Builder is the centerpiece of that
technology. The OASIS Module Builder provides the framework
necessary for users to create particle optics Modules - Modules
that will seamlessly link the PBO Lab environment to a user's
own particle optics code. The OASIS Module Builder does not
require any source code to be written -- the Module Builder
provides the complete set of tools and framework.
Selected Features of PBO Lab 3.1:
- PBO Lab 3.1 ships on CD-ROM which includes PDF copies of all manuals.
Hard copy printed user manuals are available as options for any PBO lab Modules.
- The TRANSPORT, TURTLE, TRACE 3-D, MARYLIE, DECAY-TURTLE, PARMILA-2,
PSI-TURTLE, ElectroStatic (ES) Palette, TravelingWave (TW) Palette,
NPSOL & MINOS Optimization, and OASIS Module Builder
Application Modules are all available for this release.
- Comments in the Marker Piece windows are displayed as titles
in any Plot Windows created by a Marker Piece such as those used
for TURTLE, MARYLIE, or DECAY-TURTLE.
- The Application Context pop-up menu is used to display
and access application-specific inputs for each of the installed
Application Modules, providing a quick easy visual check ("Green
Dots") on which inputs will be used by the selected Module.
- Native inputs for the selected Application Context are indicated
in the Global Parameters and Piece windows with green dots that
appear to the right of a parameter.
- The button bar in the Document Window allows quick access
to File, Edit, and View commands.
- Users can import lattice descriptions formatted as MAD,
TRANSPORT, or TRACE 3-D files.
- Comments in the Piece window are displayed as labels for
each Piece in the Model Space and Work Space of the Document
Window.
- The Alias Piece is available for creating and maintaining
identical copies of other optics, command and parameter Pieces.
- Pieces can be easily or moved by holding down the shift key
while dragging a Piece icon. Of course, Pieces may also be
copied, cut, pasted, etc.
- Focusing and Bending Tools provide quick side ("elevation") and top ("bird's eye")
views of beamlines.
- Pipe Aperture dimensions on Geometry tabs used for element
sizes in Focusing and Bending Tool displays.
- Graph & Plot Windows can be resized, from thumbnail to full
screen, and plot scales can be set directly in the Plot Windows.
- Many other features and improvements have been added that are
too numerous to list here.
